Project Title: MBL Interfacing is for Everybody with Students Teaching Students
Recipient(s): Daniel Malone, Kathy Malone
Affiliation: Pittsburgh Area High Schools - Pittsburgh, PA
Description:

State of the art MBL (microcomputer-based laboratory) interfacing is ready for the everyday physics and physical science classroom; but are those same classrooms ready for the MBL interfaces? MBL Interfacing is for Everybody with Students Teaching Students addresses that question through novel and exciting hands-on experiences without the risk of schools purchasing a "white elephant."

MBL Interfacing integrates a series of MBL involvements for students of the tri-state region surrounding Pittsburgh. The project directors' students will be trained in MBL interfacing during the 1993-1994 school year. These students would form a core of involved and enthusiastic trainers to assist in three one-day student, one teacher and one educational community workshops. Demonstrations would be heavily emphasized by hands-on "mini labs" conducted by the student trainers. Ease of current hardware and software usage and adaptability would be stressed.

The next phase of regional integration allows a student or teacher trained in a workshop to request a complete IBM or MAC loan kit to demonstrate MBL interfacing and conduct "mini labs" in their classrooms without cost. We have even allowed for the loaning of a MAC or IBM to systems in extreme financial distress.

Hardware and software would remain after the project concludes for regional loans at a cost only basis. MBL Interfacing is for Everybody with Students Teaching Students demonstrates the readiness and exceitement students experience with thesee technology relevant educational techniques.
